Counseling
"Each day asks this of us. That we live it. That we breathe while there is air to float upon. That we move while there is earth to hold us. That we not grieve our too crooked paths. That we not shirk from the beauty of being."
- Thomas Lloyd Qualls
My philosophy of counseling is informed by the belief that you are the expert of your unique you-ness. My role as counselor is to help you access and tend to your emotional landscape and by doing so, discover a deep, inherent sense of wholeness in yourself. I believe there is profound intelligence in the ways we have learned to navigate the world in the face of distress/trauma/challenging circumstances. By cultivating mindfulness and somatic awareness, we will explore your lived experience and connect to this intelligence with compassion and curiosity, all in service to nurturing a deeper sense of wholeness in yourself. My philosophy and approach is supported by a deep belief in the therapeutic relationship and I am committed to cultivating a space of non-judgment and authenticity. I believe that we are relational beings and as such, many of our wounds and places of distress stem in some way from relational experiences. To that end, I take the responsibility of creating a safe space for you to explore and heal very seriously.
My practice is deeply informed by Hakomi, a mindfulness-based, body-centered form of psychotherapy. Our work together involves studying your lived experience with curiosity and mindfulness. In additional traditional dialogue, I most often use a body-centered focus to explore your felt-sense experience. In my practice I have a particular focus on working with individuals experiencing postpartum challenges, trauma and complex trauma, alternative family structures, non-binary/genderqueer/gender non-conforming folks, and serving the LGBTQ+ community. I work with individuals as well as relational dynamics (ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, couples counseling, and platonic relationships).
It is an honor to walk with you to your edges, to witness the deep wisdom in your system, and to support you on your journey to a deeper sense of embodiment.
